Azonto came to reign and it dominated the Ghana Music Industry for 5 years; then it left.

This genre of music which came along with its own unique style of dancing was popularized by Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie in 2009 when he began releasing songs on Azonto beats.

Well, Sarkodie has not released anything Azonto in the past few years; leaving his hard core fans who came to love him for Azonto, hungry for it.

But Shatta Wale has finally succeeded in influencing Sarkodie to go back to Azonto.

It will be recalled that the two big artistes were once very good friends. However, things went from bad to worse when Shatta Wale accused Sarkodie of snitching him in a glo mobile deal some 5 years ago. They agreed to charge glo an amount of money for performing at an event. However, glo came back begging them to reduce the amount they wanted to charge; something Shatta Wale was not willing to do because he knew their Nigerian counterparts will be paid even better than them. However, Sarkodie went ahead to reduce his charge and receive payment without informing Shatta Wale.

Shatta felt that he had been stabbed in the back by Sarkodie; hence he began withdrawing from King Sark bit by bit until Shatta started jabbing Sark in his songs.

Sark waited for 11 months before releasing his response to Shatta titled; “My Advice”. The diss track was released just days to the launch of Shatta Wale’s Reign Album.

However, it took Shatta Wale up till the 1st of March 20202 before he released Little Tips in response to Sark’s “Advice” diss track.

In little tips, Shatta Wale wondered why Sarkodie would want to battle a dancehall artiste when he has colleague rappers and hip life artistes he could battle. Shatta the advised his to go back to Azonto.

25 days later, Sarkodie jumped on a trending jargon on Twitter “Fa hooki Me” to release a song. And the song was an Azonto song which brought back memories of the days when he was on top of his game with the Azonto genre.

As a result, Sarkodie, in a bid to revive the Azonto “Spirit” has promised to drop a free verse for any artistes who would drop anything Azonto. He has started the hash tag #BringBackAzonto on Twitter. That’s a laudable idea as it will help a lot of these up and coming artistes to also get a little shine.

Wow, it didn’t take Shatta Wale much effort to bring Sarkodie back to track at all.
