PROFILE: Enviable Career Of Susan Ama Duah From A Small Town, Begoro – Living Her Dream As A Footballer


Susan Ama Duah is a professional Ghanaian female footballer who began her career at a tender age as a central defender. She currently plays for Avaldsnes Idrettslag as a centre back and a defensive midfielder in the Norwegian Women’s league.

Date of Birth

Susan Ama Duah was born on February 3, 2002. 

Place of Birth:

She was born in Begoro, a small town in the Eastern Region of Ghana. 

Parents:

Susan Ama Duah was born to two Ghanaian parents. Her mum is called Rose Korang and her dad is Nana Duah who all hail from Begoro in the Eastern region of Ghana

It is the aim of every footballer to play at the highest level in his or her career; and this is exactly the dream Ama Duah is living. 

Profile:

Susan Ama Duah began her professional career with Ayola Ladies FC in Fanteakwa – Begoro. She was then signed by National League side, Ayola Ladies in Akuapem Mampong – Eastern region. However, in 2015 she joined Division 1 League side Valued Girls’ Football Academy.

Ama Duah’s defensive ability attracted the attention of a lot of clubs both domestically and in Europe. She secured a successful move in 2022 to the Toppserien, the top level of Women’s association football in Norway where she currently plays for Avaldsnes Idrettslag as a Centre back and defensive midfielder.

Susan’s Strength:

She is very strong in the air and a good passer of the ball. She has very good pace both in defense and also when joining attack. 

Apart from these, she takes advantage of her height to score quite a number of goals for her clubs. This has been her trademark since she began her professional career. 

The stalwart defender won the heart of most coaches in the League including that of coach Mercy Tagoe who decided to include her in the defensive set up for Berry Ladies.

Goals:

Susan Ama Duah scored eight goals both in the FA Cup and Division 1 league for Valued Girls Football Academy before joining Mercy Tagoe’s side Berry Ladies. 

The 19-year-old defender was signed by the India outfit for a short-term loan spell. To help stable their defensive set up for Gokulam Kerala FC in the second round of their India Female League. Fourthly, she was involved in their six matches in the second round. 

19-year-old Susan Ama Duah’s defensive posture earned her team, Gokulam Kerala FC a third place in the India Women’s league.

She joined Jordan side Amman club; and later in the season India club Shahrdari Sirjan required for her services. 

Her defensive abilities attracted Ghana Women’s Premier League club Berry Ladies to sign her for the start of the past season’s League which they emerged the first runner-up in the Southern Zone of the Women’s League.

Ghanaian female footballer Susan Ama Duah will rejoin her mother club Berry ladies after a short loan spell with Sree Gokulam Kerala FC in the India Women’s Premier League. 

First National team call up:

Ama Duah got her first Black Maiden’s call up in 2017, and is currently part of the Black Princess team, who will be playing their world cup qualifiers in December.

U-20 Women’s World Cup – Costa Rica 2022

Susan Ama Duah was part of the final 21 player list selected by head coach Ben Fokuo. Ben Fokuo kept faith with almost the entire team used for the qualifying campaign with the likes of CAF Young Player and Best Inter-Club Player of 2021, Evelyn Badu, Mukarama Abdulai, the 2018 FIFA Under-17 WWC Golden Boot and Adidas Bronze Ball winner, among the players set to carry Ghana’s dream at the competition.

And Susan Ama Duah was part of the team that represented Ghana in Costa Rica 2022.

The prolific defender was selected and played a vital role in Ghana’s campaign.
