Ras Kuuku

Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artiste Ras Kuuku, has threatened to press charges against MTN Ghana if his SIM card is disconnected after the 30th September deadline for the re-registration of SIM Card to the Ghana card.

Ras Kuuku has claimed that since he was required to present an identification while registering his SIM card which he duly did, he is still under contract with MTN Ghana.

According to a previous announcement by Minister for Communications and Digitalisation Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, a self-service application would be released on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

She said that users of the App will be able to re-register their SIM cards without needing to visit a network provider’s office.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, she stated that the SIM Registration App will be ready for download this week on both Android and IOS. There will be an additional 5 cedi fee for each app registration.

But her decision has prompted several Ghanaians to express their reservations over the new trend.

On Accra FM on August 4, 2022, Ras Kukuu admitted on air that he had missed the deadline to re-register his SIM card.

My SIM card isn’t activated yet, but I’ve already registered. “I’m under contract with MTN,” he said.

Upon being threatened with disconnection, he said; “once they disconnect me, I’ll sue MTN because we have a contract, the contract has not been annulled, so why would you disconnect me when I paid and used my ID to register the number?”

The mandatory SIM card registration process with the Ghana Card is now set to finish on September 30, 2022.
