Will There Ever Be a Ghanaian Collaboration bigger than Beyonce’s ‘Already’ featuring Shatta Wale?

After last year’s historic mega collaboration between American superstar, Beyonce and Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale, I have been asking myself if there is ever going to be a collaboration bigger than this one again.

Well, before I delve into the topic proper, if you are yet to congratulate Shatta Wale on this feat, it is now time to do so.

When Beyonce announced last year that she was releasing a song titled “Already” featuring Ghanaian dancehall artiste, El-Shatta on her The Lion King; the Gift album, many were skeptical about the whole thing.

Because of bragging rights and especially as there was tough competition between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy as to who is the biggest dancehall artiste in Ghana, many rubbished the achievement as a mere common feat.

However, upon the release of the visual for the project just over a year after the release of the song, Ghanaians have come to understand that this is no mere feat; but one that is worth the mention and all the praise to those involved.

Also, if you could remember, in December during the height of the popular “Year of Return” initiative by the Government of Ghana towards our black folks in the diaspora, it was highly rumored that Beyonce landed in Ghana. There was no concrete evidence since all those who were involved in her arrival were tight-lipped on the whole issue. However, her mum’s arrival in the country further heightened the rumors and made it more credible. Well, no one had the balls to come out to say that indeed they had seen Beyonce.

But Beyonce herself has claimed that she was in Ghana to shot some part of the visuals for the “Already” song.

Now, back to my question. Will there ever be a Ghanaian collaboration bigger than this one between Beyonce and Shatta Wale? The simple answer is that for this our generation we find ourselves in now, it’s a straight NO.

However in another generation, it is highly likely since artistes reign within generations. So who knows? When Beyonce and Shatta Wale’s generation elapses, another big artiste in Ghana who is probably not yet born will collaborate with world superstar in another country somewhere else.

The late Willie Roy once said that there will be a collaboration in Ghana that will be big. And if the words of the late Artiste Manager at Zylofon Music are anything to go by, then, this is just the first of a lot more to come.

Kudos Shatta Wale for lifting high the flag of Ghana.
