The safest pair of hands for the Black Stars, Joseph Luke Wollacott is optimistic that Ghana can beat stiff competition from Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in the World Cup to advance to the next stage in the global showpiece in Doha, Qatar which starts on Monday, 21st November and ends on Sunday, 18 December 2022.
The Swindon Town goalkeeper in an interview with “Wamputu Sports” with Wofa Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Happy FM stated that the 4 times Africa Cup of Nation winners are ready to fight in Doha.
Wollacott, 25, who will be making his first World Cup appearance confidently said; “we are Ghana, we are ready for the battle in our World Cup. It’s not an easy task”.
When asked if Ghana will qualify out of the group stage, he said; “Definitely of course, Black Stars will qualify.“
Commenting on the qualifiers for the 2023 AFCON to be hosted by Cote D’Ivoire, he said: “I’m very ready to play the Africa Cup of nations qualifiers on the 30th of May and 14th of June if invited. It’s always an honor and a privilege to wear the jersey, and represent Ghana. Thank God for everything and we hope to be successful in our next AFCON campaign.“
In October 2021, Wollacott received his first call-up to the Ghana national team for the 2022 World Cup qualification game against Zimbabwe. He debuted with them in a 3–1 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification win over Zimbabwe on 9 October 2021. He was part of the Ghanaian team in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations that was eliminated at the group stage of the competition.
