The Sudden Mad Rush Of Ghanaian Celebs Canvasing For Votes For Nana Addo’s Second Term

It’s just 51 days to Ghana’s General Election and even though the post COVID-19 era is having a downturn on the atmosphere, the euphoria is gradually picking up.

We all know that when it’s Election year, many people at influential positions take advantage of their fame to rally behind some political parties. And mind you, they don’t do it for free. There is surely an exchange of the “BENJAMINS”.

In Ghana, the case is no different. Our very own celebrities and stars take sides with the 2 big political parties in Ghana; the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

And in the past, it has cost some of them their careers. Talk of the likes of actors Egya Koo, Mr. Beautiful and musician Lucky Mensah. These few individuals have in the past agreed that their decision to join the political train affected their careers.

Now, it’s 2020 and some Celebs who were originally against the President are all of a sudden solidly routing behind Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo; and they include Prince David Osei, Shatta Wale, Nicholas Omane Acheampong and formerly NDC big wig, Afia Schwarzenegger.

It’s quiet surprising how the likes of Afia Schwar will switch within a second from her all loving NDC to become a staunch preacher of the NPP gospel.

Do not be deceived; it is only MONEY that will push her into making such a U-Turn to campaign against her once-upon a time lovely John Dramani Mahama.

Yes indeed, some money has dropped in her account and there is no denying that fact. Afia Schwar is definitely speaking due to the influence of money; just like how some people misbehave due to the influence of alcohol. The same applies to all other celebs who are endorsing Nana Addo’s Free SHS and other policies.

It is quiet disheartening when I see energetic unemployed Ghanaian youth who are so wiling to go as far as fighting just because someone else did not agree with them on political grounds. At the end of the day, they go home and sleep on empty stomachs; that is bearing the fact that they are not arrested and charged for violence.

This is a big lesson to every Ghanaian out there who is ready and wiling to die for their party; just make sure that you don’t die a poor man. Make sure you reap from the benefits of your sacrificial self.
