See 5 Merits of the Dreaded Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

I have a strong conviction that COVID-19 has been mentioned as many as 1/4 the number of times the name “Jesus Christ” has been mentioned in history.

Coronavirus disease has really gotten everyone talking and has changed our way of life; virtually everything has been affected.

Businesses have collapsed and millions of people have been asked by their employers to go home; and it’s because they (employers) are not making enough to sustain the operation of their businesses; except the pharmaceutical industry I guess.

This virus attacks the respiratory system of the body and attempts to succumb the victim’s immune system; eventually leading to death if it is not properly managed.

My heart goes out to all the families who have lost a relative or two in this period of calamity. I understand that in some instances, the entire nuclear family has been wiped off by COVID-19; quiet sad.

In as much as a monetary value cannot be placed on the loses, it has brought a bit of positives. This article looks at highlighting 5 merits that has come along with the dreaded Coronavirus disease.

1. Increased Hygiene Practice

One of the requirements to stay safe from contracting COVID-19 is the regular washing of the hands with soap under running water for 20 seconds. This will ensure that even if you happen to pick up the disease from a surface, you will still remain safe.

Due to this directive, people who in the past did not care about hand washing are now conscious of it and are sometimes forced to wash their hands at least 10-15 times on the average daily.

2. Lesser Road Accidents

This is as a result of reduced vehicular movement on our roads as people have been advised to spend more time at home and avoid going out if they don’t have any tangible reason to do so.

So the lesser the vehicles on our roads, the lesser the traffic; the lesser cases of road accidents; the lesser the number of recorded deaths from road accidents.

3. Reduced spate of robbery cases

One positive of the Coronavirus pandemic is the reduced rate of robbery cases. As we have been advised to stay at home, workers of institutions with a huge staff enrolment who are still engaged with their employers run shifts.

Unfortunate for the holigans who have decided not to get some proper work to do and will only want to loot the hard earnings of people, their targets are not making monies enough. So it has become unattractive to rob at the moment.

4. Family Reunion

Fathers and mothers who are always busy making money and not having time to spend with their kids and spouses were forced to spend time with family during the periods of lock down.

Remember, schools too were closed down. Hence, these parents now had the opportunity to also mentor their kids; and have a feel of what teachers go through bringing up their kids for them.

5. Less Organizational Cost for Social Occasion (Weddings and Internments)

Due to the ban on social gatherings and the limitation on the number of persons permitted to meet at a sitting (25), organizing social events have become less expensive.

In the past, standard weddings and funerals normally had a budget of up to GH50,000 depending on the number of guests being expected. However, with the restriction to 25 persons, you won’t need to spend so much to cater for so many people.
