The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been honoured with the chieftaincy title of “Yelemanga Naa,” or “Chief of Truth,” by the Chiefs and good people of the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa Traditional Area in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
The enskinment took place at a short durbar on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, during Nana Addo’s two-day trip of the Upper West area when he stopped at Issa to view the progress of construction on the Agenda 111 Hospital Project in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District.
Naa Yelekuang Bawiele, the Upper West Region’s paramount chief, stated that the President’s vast development initiatives since he took office in 2017 demonstrate his commitment to the pledges he made to the people of the area during his campaign.
Naa Yelekuang Bawiele spoke to the crowd about the developments that have taken place and are still in progress in the region “We asked that you hurry up the procedure to convert the CHPS Compound-turned-Issa Health Centre into a full-fledged district hospital. It now holds the designation of a Polyclinic as of 2019.
Since its inception in 2012, the district has never before possessed a district hospital or a polyclinic, therefore this is a first.”
The Issa Youth Leadership Training Institute, he added, is now a Technical Institute under TVET because “you (President Akufo-Addo) promised to provide them with a bus, and you did exactly that.”
The Chief went on, saying, “Through your leadership,” before revealing that “some two years ago, the Catholic Church and the District Assembly, under the direction of the DCE,” had opened a senior high school in the area.
Regarding the improvement of transportation networks, he said, “we also requested for the tarring of the Issa Town Roads and you delivered,” adding, “the district capital now has a tarred road and more importantly Fian-Wogu road, Issa Kojokperi – Wahabu – Wellembelle road is also under construction.”
As he put it: “Moreover, we are cognizant of the fact that your administration has worked with the European Union to build roads and marketplaces in the area. The Fian-Owlo-Daffiama-road and the Wogu-Saamanbo-road are only two examples“.
“Chiefs, as you are well aware, do not become involved in political politics. What I’ve said is devoid of any political interest, and consists only of verifiable facts.”
In response, President Akufo-Addo gave his word that he will work to make sure that the Upper West area gets its fair share of the country’s much-needed infrastructure investments.
