Ex-Ghana international Michael Essien has sparked controversy on social media after he was spotted in a hat showing the colours of the LGBTQ+ community.

In a photo of the footballer which has since gone viral on social media, he was seen wearing a hat with the rainbow colours.

Earlier this year, Essien took to social media to support the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana on the back of their resistance by the Ghanaian society. He called for more support for g@ys and l3sbians in Ghana, insisting they must be heard.

He later had to delete the post after being bashed by a section of Ghanaians.

“We see you, we hear you, we support you. Our LGBTQIA plus Community in Ghana #ghanasupportequalityGH,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Parliament is currently working on a legislation to criminalise all activities of homoseckuals.
