The African continent is blessed to have crude oil as one of its major natural resources. Also included in the list of natural resources Africa is blessed with are gold, diamond, bauxite and copper to mention just a few of them. 

In terms of countries, 54 countries make up the Africa continent and this article will discuss the top ten oil-producing countries in Africa.

1. Nigeria.

Nigeria is the highest oil-producing country with the second-largest oil reserve in Africa. Crude oil is the major natural resource that generates wealth in the country’s economy.

The country produces huge and quality oil, that’s why some of the notable oil companies in the world like Shell, Chevron, and Mobile are based in Nigeria.

2. Angola.

Angola is considered the second-largest oil-producing country and the third-largest oil trading partner of the United Stated of America in Sub-Saharan Africa because the United States imports seven percent of its oil from Angola.

According to some reports, Angola has over 9.5 barrels of authentic oil reserves and she is also a member of OPEC.

3. Algeria.

Algeria is one of the highest oil-producing countries in Africa and a full member of OPEC. The country has about 12 billion barrels of proven oil reserves.

4. Libya.

Libya is the fourth largest oil-producing country and also a member of OPEC. The country generates about 1.7 barrels of oil daily.

5. Egypt.

Egypt is considered the fifth largest producer of crude oil in the African continent. According to the BP revenue statistics in 2015, Egypt had about 3.6 billion barrels of proven oil reserved in 2014.

6. Sudan.

Sudan sits on the sixth position in the oil rich countries in Africa as they produce 490,000 barrels daily.

7. Equatorial Guinea

Equatorial Guinea is the seventh oil-producing countries in Africa and a member of OPEC. The country produces 346,000 barrels of oil daily.

8. The Republic of Congo 

The Republic of Congo is among the list of oil-producing counties in Africa. According to the 2012 BP statistical energy survey, the country had 1.94 billion barrels of proven oil reserve in 2011.

9. Gabon

Gabon is one of the highest oil-producing countries in the African continent with 241,700 barrels of crude oil produced daily.

10. South Africa 

South Africa is is one of the largest producers of crude oil with about 190,000 barrels of oil produced daily.
