Glen Powell revealed that his dad formed an unexpected bond with Matthew McConaughey and became close pals after an amusing first meeting.
The 35-year-old actor described on The Tonight Show, the hilarious way his dad hit it off with the Oscar winner McConaughey.
Talking about the Texan’s success in the field, Fallon revealed that Powell will get an honor in the local Hall of Fame this year, where another Texan, McConaughey, got recognized there in 2006.
The conversation quickly switched when the host, Fallon asked Powell if he had ever met McConaughey, to which he unveiled an interesting story after saying, “McConaughey and I are now pals”.
Recalling his time in Bastrop, Texas where he was hanging out with his dad at a ranch owned by the American film director, Richard Linklater, he suggested visiting the library to which Linklater responded by saying, “I think Matthew’s in there”.
“’Hey, hey, whoa, whoa, hold on, hold on’”, Powell disclosed with the Dallas Buyers Club actor’s impression, “Wait, I know you, I know you,” he recognized Powell.
The Anyone But You star made clear that the dad of three was indeed in the library, penning his book Greenlights which is part memoir, part life guide, per the author.
However, while McConaughey recognized Powell at first sight, he hadn’t seen his father ever and went, “Now, now, who are you?”, before Powell’s dad prompted, “I have a picture of you next to my bed”, humouring Fallon.
Embarrassed by his father’s remark, he asked his Dad to ‘stop’, but the 54-year-old let him explain.
Turns out, Dad meant the alumni magazine from the university that McConaughey went to and the star was on the cover.
“And Matthew goes, ‘That is my favourite photo shoot I have ever done in my whole life, let me tell you.’”, said Powell about McConaughey who instantly grabbed his dad for a chit chat and became ‘best friends’.“It was great. He’s a great, great man”, he added.
