Faustina Nyame Aidoo From A Humble Beginning To A Super Star…Shuts Down Her Critics With Five Medals In A Season

Faustina Nyame Adioo is a professional Ghanaian footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for the 2021 Women’s Premier League champions Hasaacas Ladies.

However, it is a dream of every player to play at the highest level in his career and this is the mindset of every professional football across the globe.

Footballers will be remembered by their achievement and their influence they imparted into the game and their respective clubs. As a player, what football fans can use to remember you will be your contribution, especially goal: that you scored which will be in memory and history books for people to see your meaningful contribution in the game.

And for an attacker to be handed a defensive role, it takes only few coaches to be able to identify such talent in individuals.

Hasaacas Ladies defensive midfielder Faustina Nyame Adioo is one of such few players who has been transformed from an attacker and given a defensive role; thanks to coach Mercy Taggoe and coach Yusif Basigi for scouting and transforming Faustina into the defensive role.

The position has since merited her a lot of chances from club level to the national team level.

In 2020, Faustina Nyame Adioo took a bold decision to quit Halifax Ladies, now Berry Ladies, to play for the four times Ghana Women’s Premier League champions, Hasaacas Ladies.

Her decision to leave Halifax Ladies was a tough one. But as a player, she thought it well to take that bold step.

Faustina Nyame Adioo, who was captain of Halifax Ladies wanted to take up a new challenge in her football career. Her presence in the Hasaacas team brought a lot of impact, winning 5 out 6 trophies in a calendar year.

Faustina Nyame Adieu started her football career at the age of nine (9) years. She developed interest in football when she started following her elder sister to training.

“It was fun to see my sister playing with guys in our area; that inspired me to get involved myself in football.”

Faustina Nyame Adioo started her professional career as a striker for Maurya Ladies in Dansoman, Accra. She took a three-year break when she decided to further her education. After her graduation, she went back to the training field to continue what she loved most. She was scouted by coach Mercy Taggoe to join Halifax Ladies in 2016. Her dream of scoring goals was cut short when she was asked to play the defensive role.

“During our Premier League game, the coach asked me to play the center defensive role, which was not my usual position as I have to take that challenge. I took up the challenge and it worked perfectly for me.”

In the 2020-2021 league season, she decided to call it quit for Halifax Ladies. She joined Hasacaas Ladies, which was a new environment for her. However, understanding her duties as a professional player, she adapted quickly to the new environment.

“It was very very difficult for me changing my environment, new players, new technical staff, new stadiums and fans and new tactics, so it was tough for me but I graduated into it successfully.”

“Joining Hasaacas Ladies, I had to fight for a position because the coach is very tactical, she wants a player who is a good passer of the ball. So she asked me to play the center defensive role, which I did, and it was perfect for me.”

Faustina Nyame Adioo shares her saddest moment with Sports Reporter saying; “when I started, my family wasn’t in support of my decision. People discouraged me. Why should a girl be playing football while she has to go to school, get married and have a family?”

“These words from people to my parents let them down. Football is a passion and great business and this is what I wanted to do; so that didn’t affect me in any way”, she stated.

She won her first trophy with Hasaccas Ladies in the Women’s Premier League when they beat Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the Champions of Champions to lift their fourth successive trophy. Not only that, she registered her name in the history books in the 64th minute when she scored the third goal in the four goal victory for Hasaacas ladies.

That didn’t end there for her as Hasaacas Ladies also won their first FA Cup trophy. She was part of the squad that represented Ghana in the Wafu Zone Women’s Champions League qualifiers in Ivory Coast. She played an integral role for Hasaacas as they won the trophy by beating River Angels of Nigeria by 3 goals to 1 in the finals.

Hasaacas Ladies represented Ghana at the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt, Faustina’s enviable inclusion for the team can’t be undermined.

In the tournament proper, she played all the matches for her side as they painfully got the shock of their lives as Sundown Ladies pipped Hasaacas Ladies by two goals to nil in the finals.

They came back home to play in the maiden edition of the Women’s Premier Super League as they emerged winners. Her role she played in the Super League tournament was superb for Hasacaas.

After their fantastic campaign in the Super League, they engaged Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the Inaugural edition of the First Lady’s Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Her inclusion in the match was excellent, distributing passes from the defense to the attack. Hasaacas won their fifth trophy for the season.

“Coach Yusif Basigi is a good coach, you will see him in the dugout shouting at us on the field of play because he wants the job to be done perfectly. I always look at him when he shouts at me if I make mistakes, and quickly concentrate on the game to avoid that same mistake”.

Faustina Adioo got her debut national team call up in 2016 but was dropped from the 23 squad, but that didn’t discourage her ambitions. She kept fighting hard for her dream. In 2018, she was part of the team that participated in the U17 World Cup in Uruguay.
