In commemoration of Juneteenth, the federal vacation recognizing the day enslaved Africans in Texas had been knowledgeable they had been no longer the property of the white slave owners, the metropolis of Inglewood, California has determined to honor a fatherland hero with its key.

On Sunday (June 18), Grammy-nominated D Smoke will acquire the Key to the City at some point of the Inglewood Juneteenth Street Festival. The rapper, whose actual title is Daniel Anthony Farris, stated this was once a remarkable honor for him to be diagnosed by means of the metropolis he grew up in.
“I couldn’t be greater honored to be the 2nd individual in records to be awarded the key to the metropolis of Inglewood,” D Smoke wrote, in accordance to two Urban Girls. “To see the modifications it incurred and to recognize that Black organizations nevertheless thrive and we’re a section of its increase makes me proud!”

A graduate of UCLA with a diploma in Spanish, he rocked the world in 2019 as the winner of Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow series.

Producer, author and actress Issa Rae was once the first character to acquire the Key to the City.
