Chris Pine is having a tough time believing a highly successful Wonder Woman franchise was put to an end after the DC pivoted to a new future storyline.

Expressing his shock to Business Insider, the Star Trek star said “I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere.”

Admitting his limited reach, he said “I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character; Patty is such a thoughtful director.”

Chris’s shock reaction was no surprise as it was similar to what the makers of Wonder Woman faced after DC axed the only female-led superhero movie in the franchise.

In an interview with Variety, the director Patty Jenkins addressed the cancellation of the franchise prompting her to shift to lead the Star Wars project.

“When I left ‘Star Wars’ to do ‘Wonder Woman 3,’ and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Well, maybe I’ll come back to “Star Wars” after “Wonder Woman 3,”‘ so we started a deal for that to happen,” she continued.

“When ‘Wonder Woman 3’ then went away, Lucasfilm and I were like ‘Oh, we’ve got to finish this deal.’ We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning, so I now owe a draft of ‘Star Wars.’ So we will see what happens there. Who knows.”
