The Black Stars of Ghana have received a cash price of $50,000 for placing third in the four-nation 2022 Kirin Cup tournament in Japan.
The Black Stars began their campaign with a disappointing 4-1 loss to hosts, Japan and went on to overcome Chile in the third-place match, winning the bronze medal on penalties.
It was a penalty shootout that gave the four-time African champions a 3-1 victory over the Chileans following a goalless first half.
In preparation for their FIFA World Cup campaign, Japan organized a four-nation tournament called the Kirin Cup as a warm-up for the global showpiece in November and December of 2022, which will feature Ghana, Tunisia and Japan’s Samurai Blues.
Ghana have been placed in a group with some old rivals in the tournament including Uruguay, Portugal and South Korea.
