Rapper Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio aka Bad Bunny opened up about the struggle of communicating in English as his first language is Spanish.
During the latest interview with Vogue for the 73 Questions series, the 29-year-old rapper who gave the interview solely in Spanish, talked about his bilingual experience as he talked about the comfort of speaking his native language.
When asked by the outlet what is the hardest part about learning English, Bunny responded, “I’m still learning.”
Acknowledging his preference for Spanish in public settings, he said, “I like speaking English in private. Not on camera or somewhere else.”
However Bunny noted that he could not point out any difficult aspect of learning English.
“There’s not a thing I can say that is the hardest thing. Nothing’s made me say, ‘This is hard,’ specifically,” he said.
He also admitted that venting out in a foreign language is sometimes hard, “I think that sometimes conveying feelings or what I’m truly thinking. Because I feel and think in Spanish, when I translate that feeling and thought into English, it’s not the same.” He concluded, “That’s the hardest part.”
Further in the interview, he was asked about “the hardest word to pronounce in English. “All of them,” he laughed, adding, “all words are hard to pronounce.”
It is pertinent to mention that the Grammy winner’s Most Wanted Tour is going on in full swing which will conclude its U.S. leg in Miami on May 26.
