Ghanaian transgender, Ohemartin, who was born a man is now identifying as a woman. Narrating her childhood, Ohemartin said that she realized so early how she was in the wrong body as she always wanted to be a girl; and because of this, she was bullied as an adolescent for not acting wholly as a boy.
“I caught myself in a role I didn’t want to play anymore at the age of 7. The vibe of the boys was annoying. I think it was toxic for me because I felt like a girl playing with boys,” she said during a recent interview with Pulseghana.
Ohemartin complained that she faced so much discrimination due to her situation; and even had a number of guys proposing to him when he was in high school. But for now, she’s living her true self despite the odds against her.
During another interview with TV show host Delay, she also said; “...a lot of bullying went on; that was hell. In a boys school, when you have feminine traits, you get bullied. People get to talk about you. It’s a whole charade on it’s own…I was very uncomfortable but I survived. I think I psyched my mind that I am in an environment full of boys so I had to cope no matter what“.
